The Greedy Boy and the Peanuts

A greedy boy lived in a town. One day, the boy found a strange jar on the table in the kitchen. "Oh, I've never seen this jar." He looked inside it. "Wow, it's full of my favorite peanuts." Excited, he reached into the jar and grabbed a handful of nuts. But something unexpected happened. He couldn't pull his hand out of the jar. He shook his hand and the jar. After several tries, he gave up and started to cry. When his mother heard her son crying, she came running. “What's wrong with you, honey?” "My hand is stuck in this jar. I can't pull it out."  She smiled and said, "if you let go of the peanuts, you can take your hand out."

욕심쟁이 소년과 땅콩 

어느 마을에 욕심꾸러기 아이가 살았어요. 그런데 어느 날 이 아이는 부엌 식탁위에서 낯선 항아리를 발견했어요. “어, 이게 뭐지? 못 보던 건데?” 아이는 얼른 항아리 안을 들여다보았어요. “야~ 내가 좋아하는 땅콩이 가득하네?” 아이는 기쁜 마음에 항아리 안으로 손을 쭉 들이밀었어요. 그리고는 땅콩을 한 움큼 쥐었어요. 그런데 생각지 못한 상황이 벌어졌죠. 손이 빠지질 않는 거였어요. 아이는 항아리와 손을 이리저리 흔들어 봤어요. 몇 번의 시도 끝에 소년은 포기하고 울기 시작했어요.

아이의 울음을 듣고 엄마가 달려왔어요. “얘야, 무슨 일이니?” 엄마는 걱정스런 눈빛으로 물었어요. “엄마, 내 손이 항아리에서 빠지질 않아요. 엉엉~” 그러자 엄마는 빙긋이 웃으며 이렇게 말했어요. “얘야, 지금 네가 쥐고 있는 땅콩을 조금 덜어내렴. 그럼 아마도 네 손이 쉽게 빠질 거야.”
